Thanks Buddy, Yeah My wallet is getting sparse until tax time, I have been researching though, Possibly some boston acoustics or Kipsch, or Jbl's or polks. I'll do a good comparison and get some new ones that can withstand the pain. Have a good New Years.Quote:

If they're in great shape like the seller says then IMHO $100 is a bargain for nice sounding vintage Altecs in great condition and I never pay asking price on Craigslist anyways (almost never--although I would in this case if the seller won't budge and they're in as nice of condition as he says). They're not as good as your Duplexes of course but whenever I used to run front and rear speakers I always put the best ones as my mains (fronts) and never worried if the rear speakers weren't quite as good--as long as they were great sounding speakers they didn't have to be as good as my mains. A friend of mine used to own a pair of Coronas and they were very nice sounding speakers. They handle 45 watts continuous which is about all your H.K. will be able to deliver to each speaker when you run 4 speakers at once. Not to mention they should be deafening before you get to 45 watts per speaker anyways--and even more deafening if your 604's are playing at the same time!
A quick search here on the forum yielded this comment from Bowtie (who know his Altecs and is not one to dish out complements about speakers that don't deserve it)

These (if they're in great shape like advertised) are nice sounding speakers that won't hog all your room. I'm not saying jump on these but if they're not far from you--the guy's phone number is in the ad. Wouldn't hurt to call him and set up an audition if you're interested (if they're not too far--I've driven pretty far to get some nice Altecs). If it were me I'd tell the guy I'd like to bring my receiver over so I can listen to them on my own amp--hopefully he has a CD player or you can bring your own too and definately bring a couple CDs you're familiar with. That's how I do it but to each his own. I don't haggle over the phone either -- not until I get the the guy's house, have heard/seen the speakers, and have $75 cash (for example) I can waive at him. When you get there, be sure to crank em up (but make sure they sound good at low volumes too--if you ever listen to speakers at low volumes!) and if you like what you here and they don't blow up when you give 'em some juice--offer the guy $75--that would be a NICE bargain if they're in great condition! If nothing else, don't go to look at them but this is a good example there are some nice Altecs on Craigslist pretty regularly and there are some good bargains to be had as well. I like Craigslist because I can bring my own amp and crank up the speakers before I buy them rather than ordering new from a catalog or used from ebay and hoping when the speakers arrive they have the sound I'm looking for. But like I said, if you go to listen to them -- CRANK them up and make sure they can take the punishement and that they sound great. It's only a bargain if they sound great NOW--not a bargain if there's something wrong with them and they need repairs--I would PASS then........
Your alright Vott, :2thumbsup: Actually I'm shooting for some smaller mount on the wall type speakers since my couch takes up the entire wall opposite the tv wall. and theres really no where else in the room to put anything larger. The other ones I cooked were hanging on the wall right above your head as you sat on the couch and really filled in the sound.
Adjust-O-Port, Ok It has a pivot screw at the top inside the cabinet. This is where they sound best. all the way closed and the mids are louder but the bass drops off, Wide open its a little to bassy and the mids aren't as loud, but right here it's a perfect harmony of the two. The mids came up and the bass came into perfect tune not too boomy not non existent. Glad I did it because now I know what it means to Tune a port. I think....:o That's still with the Bass knob all the way up on the HK and the sub off. :/
being limited to a bass knob, or a loudness button wont get the detailed imaging possibble with your setup. it appears that the 604's in your enclosures will provide enough bass for you.. so then your system would respond greatly to nice equalizer. i prefer a 31 band eq tuned with a real time analyzer, with my 'knobs' on the stereo turned to zero gain. allways cut first, then boost.
Yeah, even though the Coronas are bookshelf speakers--it sounds like they'd be too big for your setup (9 1/2" deep, 12 1/4" high, 22" wide) since they'd require at least a 10 1/2" deep shelf (22" wide or 12 1/4" wide if you "stand them up") to put one on each wall on either side of your couch (if you wanted them up in the air--on the wall). Oh well, thought I'd throw you a good lead towards some nice sounding Altecs in the $75-$100 range but it's not a good lead if it doesn't work for your room setup....Quote:
